Acanthus spinosus (Bear's Breeches)

No Photo Available

Large mounds 3 to 4 feet in height and 3 feet across make this one an excellent choice for the back of the border. One-inch flowers are nestled at the base of the leaf.

This plant does not have a long life but is beautiful when it likes its location. Foliage is spiky and can be painful if grabbed. It reminds me of holly foliage.

Combine with day lilies, iris, Pulmonaria.
