Alcea rosea (Hollyhock)

Thumbnail Photo

Tall, sturdy spikes of ruffled, fully double, scarlet red flowers. Hollyhock open from the bottom up allowing the blossoms to be on exhibit for a long period of time. Plant in a non-windy site and no staking will be required. Alcea should be treated as a short-lived perennial but definitely worth it.

Grow in rich, moist, well-drained soils.
