Allium senescens 'Glaucum' (Ornamental Onion)

Thumbnail Photo

The common name comes from the odor of onions when the leaves are bruised. This dainty guy will always have a place in my gardens. The little transparent "purse" that holds the blooms before they open is just oh so sweet. Mauve pink balls of flowers float above the grass-like foliage. A bulb that is easy to divide and clumps quickly. Likes sandy, well drained soils.

Clumps nicely
