From our own propagation fields, we can offer a few at a very reasonable price for those just getting started in the Primula collection process and aren't too concerned about exact cultivars. I got my start from Marie Skonberg, our Alaska Primula guru many years ago when visiting her at Ouzinki. It spreads very nicely and the pink early flowers are a real sweet treat. The second bloom time in the fall is almost always reliable and surely a real bonus.

The leathery foliage on this terrific variety has golden meal around the toothed hem. Wide open saucers of lavender blue with tiny white powder hovering densely over the eye. Planted at the top of a rock garden hill, these beauties will cascade down the slope over the years, providing a spectacular display.

Arrowhead Alpines claims this auricula was such a standout that they nabbed it for their own gardens. That really is a terrific testament, as they have thousands of plants pass through their hands. Intricately shaded blues really do make this plant special.

| Primula pulverulenta |

Spectacular candelabra type that loves the damp places in your gardens. Powdery stemmed with many tiers of large rich crimson flowers on exceptionally tall stems. Probably the tallest Primula. Because of our cool summers, we can grow Primula almost in any circumstance, even if they normally require damp areas. Early-summer bloom. I like to combine this with florindae that also bloom tall, but later in the season, so I have something tall all season in that location.

I made the mistake a few years ago of killing my first seiboldii. They go completely dormant after blooming, leading me to think it was dead so I planted over it and disturbed the soil. Be sure to mark them so you don't make the same mistake. From Japan and the Cortusoides group, they are very easy to grow and quickly form huge clumps. They remind me of sand dollars.

One of Dan Hinkley's Japanese introductions. Large flowers to nearly two inches across with lavender buds opening to white. The undersides are pale lavender. Flowers are slightly fimbriated (fringed). Quite spectacular, as anything Dan does.

Sally Arant describes the fragrance as that of fruit drops. Hmmm. They definitely are fragrant and I think of them as middle range. Not as tall as the florindae or pulveruenta but taller than all the Juliae or most other ground covers. Ranging in colors from soft violet pink to dark violet or deep wine, the swirl of bell-like flowers fall in the sikkimensis section and hail from Tibet. Somewhat farinose.
