Native to Alaska, a spring bloomer, shoots seeds out in the fall
naturalizing quite nicely. We use this clumper as a border plant
in our gardens.

Eryngium amethystinum Sapphire Blue (pictured) reveals
Im sure why Ive fallen in love with this plant. The
unusual intense steely blue flowers, stems and leaves cant
be found on any other plant. A striking architectural accent for
gardens.

Eupatoreum purpurea (Joe Pye Weed)

A stately giant at 5 to 10 feet, Joe-Pye weed is at home in informal
gardens. The dark maroon stems and foliage combined with grasses
results in a great presentation. Late-blooming so needs lots of
sun to flower.

The Perennial Plant Association awarded the Plant of the Year 2004
award to Athrium niponicum Pictum, Japanese Painted
Fern. We have five other fern varieties this year. Ferns with color

Gaillardia (Blanket Flower)

Stand back!! This new introduction 'fanfare' is really attracting
attention. Upward facing scarlet flowers have bright yellow edges.
Blooms start in June and continue through fall. Uses include cut
flower, containers, and anywhere you need a compact long blooming
jump out at you accent.

Geranium (Cranesbill Geranium)

Cranesbill is often seen along the roadsides and abandoned homesteads
in Alaska. These simple plants are favorites of horticulturists.
The new varieties seem endless. Were pleased to offer 14 varieties
of hardy geranium this season. Consult our 2004
Plant List for a complete listing. Moose dont like this
one. The new Roxanne (pictured) has to die for
2.5 inch violet blue flowers and marbled, deep green and chartreuse
foliage. Leave space for this one to fill out its habit of 2 to
3 square feet. Ideal for containers.

Few plants provide the spiky interest in the garden like grasses.
Were pleased to offer eleven varieties from Steve
Schmidts American Ornamental Nursery.
Alopecurus pratensis Aureovariegatus is a terrific
border plant with a nice gold edge. Miscanthus sinensis purpurascens
turns a nice red as it matures. Calamagrostis acutiflora Karl
Forester (pictured) needs a spot all its own with its
tall, 5 foot spikes. Surround with Heuchera Purple Petticoats
for a stunning affect.
