I've been trying to get this native plant for years. Imagine my delight when this past year at our Caribou Lake cabin, the ground was literally blanketed in these wondrous woodland flowers. Although technically a shrub, they are only about four inches tall. The reddish or orange berries appear late August or September, thus the common name "bunchberry," probably not the best to eat. The white bracts are often mistaken for the flower, however the flower is really the small clusters on top of the bracts. If you can plant these in good woodland soil, or bring in that type setting, you'll enjoy nice spreading by stolonifera roots.
