New Plants for 2010
As usual, we seem to have gone overboard for 2010, with more than 100 new plants. But just take a look at these beauties and you'll see why we can't help it. By "new" we mean some are brand new to the market, some are new to us, and some are ones we've had a hard time getting recently. Download our order form and be sure to order early, as some will sell out quickly.

Later in the summer the centers will become stark white. Pale lavender, tubular flowers are produced on 34-inch scapes. Attracts both hummingbirds and songbirds. Spread is 36 inches. Hosta sieboldii 'Sum and Substance' (Hosta) |
| This is the biggest hosta I've ever seen. The ovate leaves get to be 16 inches and the huge mounded form can get to be 5 to 6 feet wide. The flower scape soars up to 6 feet later in the summer. The leaves are corrugated, of good substance and glossy adding good slug resistance attributes. Zone: 3 Exposure: Height x Width: 36" x 36-60" Flower Color: Lavender Bloom Time: Summer Notes: Price: 1 gallon, $14.00

Iberis sempervirens 'Little Gem' (Candytuft) |
| Excellent along the path and border to brighten the way. Will bloom in full sun or partial shade so could be used as an understory for shrubs growing in sun that would allow sun coming or going during the day. Evergreen mounds really show-off the bright white unusually shaped flowers. Dead heading will help extend the bloom period and will contribute towards keeping the foliage clean and green. Totally shear the entire plant when completely done blooming. Miscellaneous Name: I. s. Weisser Zwerg Zone: 4 Exposure: Height: 8" Flower Color: White Bloom Time: Spring Notes: Price: 1 gallon, $14.00

Iris sibirica 'Bountiful Violet' (Siberian Iris) | No Photo Available | Mottled blue-violet blooms are a bit larger than the usual Iris sibirica. Being a solid color also tends to make the blooms seem more dramatic. Nice presence combined with any of the Achillea, but I really like it with the red Achillea 'Fireland'. Zone: 3 Exposure: Height x Width: 24" x 42" Flower Color: Blue Bloom Time: Summer Notes: Price: 1 gallon, $9.25

Leucanthemum x superbum 'Banana Cream' (Shasta Daisy) |
| If you haven't seen this new one, you don't subscribe to any magazines! It's everywhere and there is a reason. Introduced by Walter's Gardens after their field trials showed the vase life of 'Banana Cream' is well over 2 weeks. The early 4-inch-wide lemon yellow bloom continues to brighten to light butter yellow and finally to creamy white. The extra row of ray petals creates a fuller appearance than the usual Shasta daisies. We've tried to keep this one affordable so everyone can enjoy it. Zone: 4 Exposure: Height x Width: 15-18" x 18-24" Flower Color: Yellow Bloom Time: Summer Notes: Good for cut flowers. Price: 4 inch, $6.00

Leucanthemum x superbum 'Crazy Daisy' (Shasta Daisy) |
| It's labeled "crazy" because no two blooms are alike. The fringed and frilly, semi- to fully double Shasta Daisy offers 2 inches wide, solid white petals surround a small buttery yellow center. Although it's listed as a zone 5, I've grown it successfully in my zone 3 garden for about 5 years. And again, although it's listed as spreading, mine has never made another plant but only matured from the original planting. I do agree, however, that is has prolific flowering tendencies. Zone: Exposure: Height x Width: 24-28" x 12-18" Flower Color: White Bloom Time: Summer Notes: Price: 4 inch, $6.00

Leucanthemum x superbum 'Snehurka' (Shasta Daisy) |
| Looks like 'Crazy Daisy' with one more layer of fluff. The centers are more of a greenish cast, too. But I'm hoping it behaves just like 'Crazy Daisy'. Very sturdy stems suggest a good cut flower. Zone: 4 Exposure: Height x Width: 24-36" x 15" Flower Color: White Bloom Time: Summer Notes: Good for cut flowers. Price: 4 inch, $6.00

Lewisia 'Little Peach' (Lewisia) |
| We've enjoyed the hardiness and vigorous growth of 'Little Plum' so we are very much looking forward to this new Lewisia. Flowers are a blend of yellow, orange and peach on upright stems. Floriferous, long bloomer stands up well to cold wet winter. Sounds like it was made for Alaska gardens. Maybe just the one for that rock garden spot. Zone: 3 Exposure: Height x Width: 6" x 10" Flower Color: Peach Bloom Time: Spring Notes: Price: 4 inch, $6.00

Lilium 'Blackbird' (Asiatic Lily) |
| Wing-shaped petals are named after the brilliant red flash of color revealed when blackbird wings catch the sunlight. One of the shortest lilies, the up to 6 inch side satiny red flowers add grace and beauty to the garden. Combined with the neon gold grass Alopecurus pratensis Aureovariegatus, it's sure to be a show stopper. Zone: 3 Exposure: Height: 16-18" Flower Color: Dark Red Bloom Time: Summer Notes: Price: 1 gallon, $10.00

Lilium 'Bonsoir' (L.A. Hybrid Lily) |
| Strong, clear deep orange with darker mid crease to throat on strong stems provide a side facing bloom. Another great bulb to plant all around this beauty would be one of the taller Allium. I'm going to combine it in my gardens this summer with lily 'America' and Dianthus 'Firewitch'.
Zone: 3 Exposure: Height: 42" Flower Color: Orange Bloom Time: Summer Notes: Price: 1 gallon, $10.00

Lilium 'Dipololo' (Asiatic Lily) |
| Whipped pink cream with muted streaks and freckles of mauve move towards a throat of green-yellow. While at first appearance you might think this lily would be fragile-but it is a great, tall, strong lily. The upward facing blooms almost look like they are reaching for the sunlight. It looks terrific combined with the lily 'America' that seems to pull out the freckles. Zone: 3 Exposure: Height: 60" Flower Color: Pink Bloom Time: Summer Notes: Price: 1 gallon, $10.00

Lilium 'Elite' (Asiatic Lily) |
| Need something to brighten up your garden? This is it! Clear, glowing orange up-facing blooms on very strong stems. Ideal for cut flowers, too. I love this one combined with any of the later blooming purple varieties such as Salvia, Veronica, or Campanula 'Glomerata Superba'. Zone: 3 Exposure: Height: 29" Flower Color: Orange Bloom Time: Summer Notes: Price: 1 gallon, $10.00

Lilium 'Kentucky' (L.A. Hybrid Lily) |
| Wow! That was my first reaction when I saw this new side facing L.A. Hybrid. Some artist must have had great fun taking the glossy orange background and airbrushing it with dark plum-reddish rust. I can just envision this lily with a great grass like Calamagrostis 'Avalanche' or 'Overdam'. The extra strong stems will provide a good vase life and a distinctive result. Zone: 3 Exposure: Height: 55" Flower Color: Yellow Bloom Time: Summer Notes: Price: 1 gallon, $10.00
