Featured Plants for JulyPosted July 1
Dear Gardeners: Well, it is the teen days -- or the awkward days -- for my garden. No one else seems notice, but I always go through this time every year when the spring plants have about all done their thing and the late-summer plants aren't blooming yet. But, I know it is all in my head because I just came in from photographing the gardens and they are quite nice. Is a gardener ever satisfied with his garden? I don't thing so. Maybe for about a week or so then you see holes etc. That's what it's all about though, isn't it? But there is one saving grace this time of year and it is the containers I planted at the beginning of the season. I've included a couple of shots. One has the beautiful Geranium 'Rozanne' in it that will be the Perennial Plant of the Year for 2008. I love the color of the flower but the foliage is great, too. We have some very nice ceramic pots available at extremely reasonable prices.
Climbing ClematisWe still have a very good selection of clematis in stock. The one pictured on the right is one of the C. alpina varities. It is very hardy and often blooms twice, in early summer and again in fall. We have them in stock at only $15.00 per container. But they won't last long at that price! Last Chance this Season for Blue Poppies
Roses in BloomIf you've been trying to decide which rose or roses are right for you, stop in soon and you'll have your decision made easier, as they are all starting to bloom and i's pretty spectacular up in rose land right now. I especially am in love with the yellows this year. Here is a photo of a rose bush busting out with scads of buds for your review. Most of our roses are $22.00.
Getting Married is not a RequirementNo, getting married is not a requirement to owning one or a dozen of the wonderfully fragrant lily of the valley. They are starting to bloom and we have generously potted up a few for you in our big square pots, for $7.50 each. This is a favorite for brides, but is very nice in vases to "scent up" your whole house.
Secret Iris SpecialAs most of our e-mail recipients know, we sometimes offer special prices just for you. When you come into the greenhouses, if you ask, we will give you 15 percent off any iris you pick. The photo here on the right is to provide incentive. Clever, aren't I? We've Been Digging AgainThe last week of June we dug up a ton of the large Aquilegia (columbine). They are too huge to pot so are in clumps. It would be great if you BYOB. (bring your own bucket). Prices start at $8.50. We do have a nice selection potted including the dwarf blues starting at $5.00 each. Lotsa Hosta!
