Welcome, it's September 6. Fritz Creek Gardens of Homer, Alaska, is the home of Alaska Hardy® perennials, trees, shrubs, vines and roses. We aim to provide the largest variety of Alaska Hardy plants suitable for the great north — more than 500 different plants in all. We gladly provide the expertise to assist our customers achieve success in growing healthy, beautiful plants with the least amount of negative impact on our environment. Now Open for the Season! We are open for the 2010 season and totally excited about some of the new plants, our new Paeonia fields, and we welcome back some of our staff. It's always fun to see all the return gardeners, too. Our open hours are from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. We're open on Sunday from noon to 5 p.m., and we're closed Mondays.
Web Site Always Open.Our web site is always open, and we pride ourselves on the accurate and authoritative information we provide here. Our webmaster is a stickler for accuracy, with his Royal Horticulture Bible in his left hand at all times. Many of our gardeners spend a bit of time on the web site before their visit, preparing for the shopping experience. The pictures on the web are extremely helpful in making your decisions. It's not always easy to picture the total plant when you see it early in the year when it may have perhaps 4 leaves and no flowers. Order by Mail! Fritz Creek Gardens ships most of the plants you see here throughout Alaska. We make it easy to order by phone or fax, e-mail, or mail your order to us. Download our order form and be sure to order early, as some plants will sell out quickly. Shrubs & Trees. Our trees, shrubs, and roses all come from Canada and will arrive around May 15. We have a one-liner for the trees and shrubs on this web site, and the roses are all pictured in the Roses section. We recommend Michael Dirr's "Hardy Trees and Shrubs" book for a commercial reference. Or, for strictly Alaska information, the Cooperative Extension Service puts out a terrific publication with excellent zone information divided up into districts. I promise myself every year to do better, to cut back. Perhaps I should just let that goal go, eh? Maybe I'm not being honest or realistic with myself. Check out the New 2010 Plants and see if there's something you don't have. Some are brand new to the market, some are new to us, and some are ones we've had a hard time getting recently. Enjoy! Directions. Fritz Creek Gardens is located 8.5 miles from downtown Homer on East End Road. (There is another greenhouse on the way at mile 7, Reid's, which specializes in annuals and herbs.) Our Gardens. We have 13 theme gardens: Tori Meadow is designed to attract beneficial insects, Woodland Whimsy features shade plants and unusual garden art, three rock gardens (there are so many great rock garden plants), a lily garden, Nipon Niwa (an Oriental garden), a new cut flower garden with more than 3,000 peonies (this should be a WOW scene in a couple of years) -- and many more gardens! See our Gardens Page for a sneak preview. Admission fee to the gardens is $2. Seniors, large groups or season passes are available at a discount. Alaska Hardy Peony. For the Fritz Creek Gardens customer, there is a direct benefit to you from our new enterprise, growing peony for the cut flower market. As a result of this new interest, we are ramping up our offering to the home gardener. This year I believe we have 19 Paeonia offered. Check it out.
